Why are women so critical of each other?

It's en-grained in our brains that we need to look a certain way and that if another girl has what we want, she is automatically evil and must be avoided. It sucks. I mean, men have a similar thing but theirs is "that guy is bigger than me- I must start **** with him!" I have learned to control my inner-woman jealousy gene but lots haven't!
