How did the belief that WWI was a "war to end all wars" affect support of the war?

The phrase WAS used during the war (towards the end, after the U.S. entered, but it was technically the "war to end war" (not "all wars"). It did help garner support for the war among the U.S. public, but was indeed much more important afterwards, mainly in the sense of amplifying disappointment at how little the war actually did accomplish towards ending further wars.
